§ 25698 City Water Tax Approval

• •Cities with their own water systems can't be charged extra taxes for water projects unless the people who live there vote to allow it.
• •The vote must follow the rules in Sections 25693, 25694, and 25697.
• •This rule has been in place since 1947.

A city wants to build a new water treatment plant to clean the water better.

The city can't just raise taxes to pay for it. They have to ask the people who live there to vote on it first. If most people vote yes, then they can add the tax.
