§ 23383 County Service Transfer Contracts

Key Takeaways

  • •When a new county is created, the old county keeps providing services until the new county is ready to take over.
  • •The new county must make a deal with the old county to pay for these services until the switch happens.
  • •The deal must say how much the new county will pay the old county for the services.
  • •Even after the switch date, the new county can still ask the old county for help if needed.

Example

A new county called 'Sunshine County' is created from part of an old county called 'Mountain County'.

Until Sunshine County is ready, Mountain County keeps doing things like fixing roads and running schools. Sunshine County has to pay Mountain County for these services until they can do it themselves. They make a contract to decide how much to pay. Even after Sunshine County is supposed to take over, they can still ask Mountain County for help if they need it.
