§ 22807 Part-Time Employee Coverage Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •This law lets some bosses decide that part-time workers (who work less than half-time) can still get certain benefits.
  • •It applies to workers who have been hired for at least 6 months but work less than half-time.
  • •For teachers, it also includes substitutes who work at least 100 days in a school year or have a job for a semester or half the school year.
  • •The boss has to officially decide this by filing a paper with the board.

Example

A school hires a substitute teacher who works 100 days in a year.

The school can decide to give this substitute teacher the same benefits as full-time teachers, even though they don’t work full-time. The school has to file a paper to make this official.
