§ 22806 Intermittent Employee Health Benefits

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work for the state and have a job that's not full-time but lasts more than six months, you can get health insurance if you work at least half-time and complete 480 hours in six months.
  • •You have 60 days after working those 480 hours to sign up for health insurance.
  • •To keep the insurance, you need to keep working those hours every six months (480 hours each six months or 960 hours in a year).
  • •If you're in a special group (State Bargaining Unit 6), you can sign up for health insurance after finishing training at certain departments, but you still need to work the required hours to keep it.

Example

Jane works part-time for the state, helping in an office. She works 20 hours a week.

Jane works half-time (20 hours a week). After six months, she checks her hours and sees she worked 480 hours (20 hours x 24 weeks). She can now sign up for health insurance within 60 days. To keep it, she needs to keep working at least 480 hours every six months.
