§ 21579 Post-Federal Coverage Members

Key Takeaways

  • •This law applies to certain state or local workers even if their job was part of a federal system before.
  • •It doesn’t matter if their job was covered by other rules (Sections 21576 and 21577) before—this law still applies to them now.
  • •This rule started in 1996.

Example

A teacher who used to be part of a federal retirement plan but now works for a local school.

Even if the teacher’s job was covered by different rules before, this law now applies to them because their employer follows these state rules.
