§ 20906 Employee Organization Leave Benefits

Key Takeaways

  • •If a school worker takes time off to be a leader in a worker group, they still get credit for their job time like they were working.
  • •They get paid and benefits as if they were working, not on leave.
  • •Both the worker and the school must pay into the retirement fund like normal.
  • •The school must check if the worker is really eligible for this leave and keep records.

Example

A teacher takes a year off to work as a leader in the teachers' union.

The teacher will still get credit for that year as if they were teaching, and their pay and benefits will be the same as if they were in the classroom. The teacher and the school will still pay into the retirement fund like normal.
