§ 20899 Elective Officer Service Credit

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work as an elected official, you get credit for each year you serve in that job.
  • •Even if the job is part-time, it counts as full-time for your service credit.
  • •This rule helps figure out how much time you’ve worked for things like retirement benefits.

Example

If you are elected as a city council member and serve for 3 years, even if the job is part-time, you get credit for 3 full years of work.

This means your 3 years of part-time service as an elected official count the same as 3 years of full-time work for things like retirement.
