§ 20426 Police Officer Retirement Coverage

Key Takeaways

  • •Some police workers who do communication jobs can be part of a special safety group if their city agreed to it in 1948.
  • •The city must choose to follow this rule by changing its contract or adding it in new contracts after 1989.
  • •This rule doesn’t apply unless the city says yes to it in writing.

Example

A person works as a police radio operator in a city.

If their city had a contract in 1948 and the worker chose to join the safety group in 1973, they can be part of it. But the city must have agreed to this rule in its contract.
