§ 17576 Mandate Cost Reimbursement Estimates

Key Takeaways

  • •If a new law makes the government do more work or spend more money, someone has to figure out how much extra money is needed.
  • •The Department of Finance has to calculate the cost before the law is discussed in money-related meetings.
  • •This cost estimate must be ready before any big meetings about the new law happen.

Example

The government wants to pass a law that says every school must have a nurse.

Before they talk about the law in meetings, the Department of Finance has to figure out how much money it will cost to hire nurses for all schools.
