§ 17571 Mandated Cost Reimbursement Review

• •If a city or school asks, a group called 'the commission' will check the rules for getting money back for things the state makes them do.
• •If the rules are wrong or don’t follow the guidelines, the commission can tell the Controller (the money person) to fix them.
• •The Controller has to change the rules to match what the commission says.

A school district spends money on a new program because the state told them to. They want to get some of that money back, but the rules for asking for the money are confusing.

The school can ask the commission to check the rules. If the commission sees the rules are too hard or don’t make sense, they can tell the Controller to make them simpler. The Controller has to listen and fix the rules.
