§ 17272 Warrant Payment Authorization Process

Key Takeaways

  • •If a warrant (like a promise to pay money) doesn't have a due date, the government decides when to pay it.
  • •If a warrant has a due date but there's no money to pay it, the government will pay it later when they have the money.
  • •The government will also pay any extra money (interest) that has built up.
  • •The government's money boss (Controller) and a group of people (committee) decide when to pay these warrants.

Example

Imagine you have a gift card with no expiration date. The store will decide when you can use it. If the store doesn't have money to give you your stuff right away, they'll give it to you later when they have the money.

This law is like that gift card. The government has promises to pay money (warrants), and if they can't pay right away, they'll pay later when they have the money, plus a little extra.
