§ 14906 Library Contracting Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Libraries like city, county, college, and university libraries in California can make special agreements.
  • •The California State Library decides who gets these agreements first based on who asks first.
  • •This rule was updated in 2020.

Example

A city library wants to borrow rare books from another library.

The city library can make a deal with another library to share books, but they have to ask the California State Library first. If they ask before other libraries, they might get to do it sooner.
