§ 14662 State Property Easement Acquisition

Key Takeaways

  • •The state can buy special rights to use someone else's land if it helps them use their own land better.
  • •This rule doesn’t apply to roads or high-speed train projects—they have their own rules.
  • •Only the Director of General Services can decide if they need these special rights.

Example

The state owns a park but needs a path through a neighbor’s land so people can walk to it safely.

The state can buy the right to use that path from the neighbor, but only if the Director of General Services says it’s needed.
