§ 13002 Director Appointment Salary

Imagine the Governor is like the principal of a school, and the director is like the vice-principal.

The principal (Governor) can choose who becomes vice-principal (director) and can also decide to let them go if they want. The vice-principal gets a salary, and how much they get paid is written in another rulebook (Chapter 6 of Part 1 of Division 3 of Title 2 of the Government Code).
