§ 12413 State Treasurer Account Management

Key Takeaways

  • •The Controller keeps track of the state's money.
  • •The Treasurer is responsible for the money they start with and all money they receive.
  • •The Treasurer gets credit for all the money they pay out.

Example

Imagine you have a piggy bank at home.

Your mom keeps track of all the money in the piggy bank. When you get new money, like from your allowance or birthday gifts, your mom writes it down. When you spend money, like buying candy, your mom also writes that down. This way, everyone knows how much money is in the piggy bank and where it went.
