§ 12279 Restoring Lost State Records

Key Takeaways

  • •If important state papers get destroyed in a big disaster (like a fire or flood), the Secretary of State can help.
  • •They can make copies of the lost papers to replace them.
  • •This is only for really bad situations, not small accidents.

Example

A big fire burns down a government building, and all the birth records inside are lost.

The Secretary of State can step in and make new copies of those birth records so people can still get them when they need them.
