§ 16800 Foreign Credit Union License Surrender

A foreign credit union can give up its license for an office, but if it has more than one office it must give up all of them at once.

Key Takeaways

  • •If a foreign credit union has only one office, it can surrender that license by filing the license and a report.
  • •If it has two or more offices, it must surrender all of those licenses together; it cannot surrender just one.
  • •The surrender becomes effective 30 days after the filing, unless the commissioner orders an earlier date or there is a pending revocation case.

Example

A credit union from another country that operates two branches in California wants to close one branch.

It cannot close just one branch; it must surrender the licenses for both branches together by filing the license and a report with the commissioner.
