This law lets credit union members vote to change their credit union into a federal credit union, but only if a majority of the votes cast at a proper meeting or through a written ballot approve it.

Key Takeaways

  • •Members must approve the conversion with a majority vote.
  • •The vote can happen at a meeting with a quorum or by written ballot.
  • •The written ballot must follow rules in the Corporations Code or the credit union's bylaws.

Example

A credit union wants to become a federal credit union after its board suggests the change.

Members meet, vote, and if more than half of the votes cast approve the change, the credit union can convert to a federal credit union.
