§ 6455 Triploid Grass Carp Permit Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •You need a special permit to use triploid grass carp in water areas.
  • •The water area must be closed off so the fish can't escape to other waters.
  • •The person in charge must control the water area and have barriers to keep the fish in.
  • •If you put these fish in water without a permit, you can be fined up to $5,000 or go to jail for up to a year.

Example

A farmer wants to use triploid grass carp to control weeds in their pond.

The farmer must get a permit, make sure the pond is closed off so the fish can't escape, and ensure the pond has enough oxygen and plants for the fish. If they don't get a permit and put the fish in the pond anyway, they could be fined or jailed.
