§ 10913 Encinitas Marine Life Refuge

This law creates a protected ocean area called the City of Encinitas Marine Life Refuge. It sets boundaries for where this protected area starts and ends along the coast.

Key Takeaways

  • •The protected area is along the coast in Encinitas, California.
  • •It starts at the mean high tide line and goes 600 feet out into the water.
  • •The area also has north and south boundaries based on specific streets and property lines.
  • •This law helps protect marine life by setting these boundaries.

Example

If you go fishing or diving near the shore in Encinitas, California.

You need to check if you're inside the protected area. If you are, there might be rules about what you can and can't do to protect marine life.

How to Calculate

The boundary is defined as 600 feet westerly of and parallel to the mean high tide line.

  1. Find the mean high tide line along the shore in Encinitas.
  2. Measure 600 feet outward (west) from that line, keeping parallel to it.
  3. This new line, 600 feet out, is part of the boundary for the protected area.

Imagine you're standing on the beach in Encinitas at high tide.

Result: The protected area starts 600 feet out from where you're standing, parallel to the shoreline.
