§ 8813 Birth Parent Adoption Updates

Key Takeaways

  • •Birth parents can ask for updates about their child's adoption anytime after signing the adoption papers.
  • •They can get info like if the child was adopted, when it happened, or if the adoption didn't work out.
  • •They won't get personal details about the adoptive family, like names or addresses.

Example

A mom gives her baby up for adoption and signs the papers. Years later, she wonders if the adoption went through.

She can call the adoption agency and ask if the child was adopted, when it happened, or if the adoption fell through. But she can't get the new family's personal info.
