§ 8622 Adoption Agency Service Disclosure

Key Takeaways

  • •Adoption agencies that only work with certain groups of people must tell everyone upfront about who they help.
  • •They have to explain this before they start working with you, before you sign anything, and before they take any money.
  • •This rule started on January 1, 1995.

Example

A couple wants to adopt a baby and goes to an adoption agency.

The agency must tell the couple right away if they only help with certain types of adoptions, like only working with families of a specific religion. They can't wait until later or after the couple has paid them.
