§ 7883 Failure To Appear Contempt

Key Takeaways

  • •If you get a court paper in person and don't show up without a good reason, you can get in trouble.
  • •If the paper says to bring your kid to court and you don't, that's also bad.
  • •The trouble is called 'contempt of court'—like disobeying the judge.

Example

You get a court paper saying you must go to court because your kid skipped too much school. The paper is handed to you by an officer.

If you ignore the paper and don’t go to court (or don’t bring your kid if it says so), the judge can punish you for not following the rules.
