Key Takeaways

  • •There is a group called the California Spiny Lobster Commission with 6 fishermen and 1 regular person.
  • •The 6 fishermen are picked by fishermen from 5 different counties (San Diego, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles) and 1 extra fisherman picked by all fishermen in California.
  • •If you want to be one of the fishermen on the group, you need at least 5 other fishermen to sign a paper saying they support you.
  • •The regular person on the group is picked by the leader from a list of names suggested by the group.

Example

Imagine you are a fisherman in San Diego and you want to be on the California Spiny Lobster Commission.

You would need to get at least 5 other fishermen to sign a paper saying they want you to be on the group. Then, fishermen in San Diego would vote to pick you or someone else to represent them on the group.
