§ 69019 Pistachio District Boundaries

Key Takeaways

  • •California is split into 3 districts for pistachio growing: District 1 (southern counties), District 2 (central counties), and District 3 (all other pistachio-growing counties not in 1 or 2).
  • •The districts can be changed if 2/3 of the commission and the secretary agree, even if it means splitting counties.
  • •This is about where pistachios are grown, not where people live.

Example

A farmer in Fresno grows pistachios.

Fresno is in District 2, so the farmer follows the rules for that district. If the commission votes to change the districts later, the farmer might be in a different district.

§ 69019 Pistachio District Boundaries

“Districts” shall consist of the following: (a) District 1 consists of Tulare, Kern, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial Counties. (b) District 2 consists of Kings, Fresno, Madera, and Merced Counties. (c) District 3 consists of all counties where pistachios are produced that are not included in Districts 1 and 2. The boundaries of any district may be changed by a two-thirds vote of the commission, which is concurred in by the secretary, to ensure proper representation by producers. The boundaries need not coincide with county lines. (Amended by Stats. 1995, Ch. 727, Sec. 26. Effective January 1, 1996.)
