§ 76061 Commission Member Term Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •Most members of the commission serve for 2 years, but their term ends when a new member is ready to take over.
  • •For the first group of members, half serve for 1 year and the other half serve for 2 years. Who serves for how long is decided by luck (like drawing names from a hat) when they are chosen.
  • •No one can be a member for more than 4 terms in a row. But if someone was picked for a 1-year term first, they can serve up to 5 terms in a row.

Example

Imagine a group of farmers and shippers are chosen to be on a fruit commission. Some are picked to decide rules about selling fruit.

The first time the group is formed, half of the farmers and shippers will serve for 1 year, and the other half will serve for 2 years. Who gets which term is decided randomly. After that, everyone serves for 2 years. No one can stay on the commission for more than 4 terms in a row, unless they started with a 1-year term, then they can do 5 terms.
