§ 62075 Milk Pricing Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •The law sets the lowest prices that milk buyers must pay to farmers for milk used in drinks (like regular milk).
  • •Prices are based on things like fat in the milk, other solids (like protein), or just the liquid part.
  • •For other types of milk (not drinking milk), prices can be set separately for fat, solids, liquid, or a mix of these.
  • •The goal is to make sure farmers get paid fairly for their milk.

Example

A dairy farmer sells milk to a company that makes chocolate milk.

The company must pay the farmer at least the minimum price set by the law. This price depends on how much fat and other solids are in the milk. If the milk has more fat, the farmer might get paid more.
