§ 61332 Cooperative Dairy Product Distribution

Key Takeaways

  • •A nonprofit group that helps dairy farmers can be called a 'distributor' in certain cases.
  • •This happens when the group gets milk or dairy products from someone who is not a farmer they work with.
  • •It also applies if the group processes or packages milk, like putting it in cartons or bottles.
  • •The group is a distributor when they sell or deliver packaged milk or dairy products.

Example

A local dairy cooperative gets milk from a farm they don’t usually work with and then sells it in cartons at the store.

In this case, the cooperative is acting as a distributor because they took milk from a non-member farm and sold it packaged.
