§ 5931 Citrus Virus Funding Election

Key Takeaways

  • •If the committee and citrus pest control districts can't agree on who pays for the plan to fight the citrus tristeza virus, there will be a vote.
  • •The vote is for landowners in the citrus pest control districts to decide who should pay: the California Citrus Pest and Disease Prevention Committee or the citrus pest control districts themselves.
  • •The vote happens only if they can't agree on their own.

Example

Imagine two groups can't decide who should pay for a plan to protect orange trees from a bad disease. One group is a big state committee, and the other is a local group of farmers.

If they can't agree, the local farmers will vote to pick who pays for the plan. It's like choosing between the state or the local group to foot the bill.
