• •If you knowingly produce or sell more of a product than you're allowed under the rules, you have to pay a fine.
• •The fine is either the current market value of the extra amount you produced/sold or three times that amount, depending on what the court decides.

• •The money collected from these fines goes into a special state fund.

A dairy farmer is only allowed to sell 10,000 gallons of milk this year under the rules. But the farmer sells 12,000 gallons instead.

The farmer sold 2,000 gallons more than allowed. If the current market price for milk is $5 per gallon, the fine could be $10,000 (2,000 x $5) or $30,000 (3 x $10,000), depending on what the court decides.
