§ 57531 Public Lien Notice Copies

• •Anyone can get a copy of a lien notice (a paper saying someone claims they're owed money for work done on a property).
• •You have to pay a small fee to get this copy, just like you pay for other official papers.
• •This rule started in 2000 but didn't fully kick in until 2001.

You hire a contractor to fix your roof, but they don’t finish the job. Later, you hear they filed a lien on your house, saying you owe them money.

You can go to the right office and ask for a copy of that lien paper. You’ll pay a small fee, like when you pay for copies at a store, and they’ll give it to you.
