§ 5701 Pest Control Quarantine Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •If a bug or plant disease is found on someone's property, the government can stop plants or things that might spread it from being moved.
  • •They can also stop plants up to 5 miles away from where the bug or disease was found.
  • •The owner of the plants will be told about this, and they won’t be allowed to sell or move those plants.

Example

A farmer finds out his orange trees have a bad bug that can spread to other farms.

The government can tell the farmer and other nearby farmers (up to 5 miles away) that they can’t sell or move their orange trees until the bug is gone. This stops the bug from spreading to more farms.
