§ 56135 Severability Of Chapter Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If a small part of this law is found to be wrong or invalid, the rest of the law still works.
  • •Only the bad part gets removed, not the whole thing.
  • •This rule helps keep most of the law in place even if one piece has a problem.

Example

Imagine a rulebook for a school that says kids must wear uniforms, but one rule says hats are not allowed. If a judge says the hat rule is unfair, the rest of the uniform rules still apply.

The law works the same way—if one tiny part is bad, the rest of the law stays in effect.

(Enacted by Stats. 1967, Ch. 15.)
