§ 55636 Producer Lien Enforcement Duration

Key Takeaways

  • •If a farmer or producer sues to get paid for their goods, their lien (a legal claim on the goods) stays active until the case is over.
  • •The lien ends only if the buyer pays the full price, puts the money in court, or a judge makes a final decision.
  • •The lien doesn’t disappear just because the case takes a long time.

Example

A farmer sells wheat to a bakery but doesn’t get paid. The farmer sues the bakery to enforce their lien on the wheat.

The farmer’s lien stays in place until the bakery pays, puts the money in court, or a judge decides the case. The bakery can’t just ignore the lien.
