§ 5426 Encumbrancer Notice Address Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If the person who has a claim on a property (like a loan) can't be found, the notice about the property can be sent to the county office where the property is located.
  • •The notice must say that the person's address is unknown.
  • •This is a backup way to tell someone about important stuff related to their property if you don't know where they live.

Example

Imagine your neighbor borrowed money using their house as a promise to pay back, but then they moved away and no one knows where they live.

The bank or the government can send the important papers about the house to the county office instead of the neighbor's old address. This way, the neighbor might still find out about it if they check with the county.
