§ 52401 Seed Agency Certification Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •The government makes a list of trusted groups that can check and confirm the quality of seeds.
  • •These groups make sure seeds are what they say they are, like the right type and good quality.
  • •Before adding a group to the list, the government talks to experts at the University of California to make sure the group is good enough.

Example

A farmer wants to buy tomato seeds that are supposed to be a special type that grows big, juicy tomatoes.

The farmer checks if the seed seller is on the government's trusted list. If they are, the farmer can be sure the seeds are really the special type and not a mix of different seeds.
