§ 52289 Noncommercial Seed Sharing Guidelines

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can put info online about sharing seeds for fun (not selling them).
  • •They can tell you how to check if seeds will grow well or are the right kind.
  • •They can explain rules about protecting special plant types.
  • •They can share tips for people who swap seeds, like being open about what you're sharing.

Example

You and your neighbor swap tomato seeds from your gardens.

The government might post tips online about how to make sure those seeds will actually grow into tomatoes, or remind you to follow rules if the tomatoes are a special kind someone invented.
