§ 31681 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be invalid or doesn't work, the rest of the law still stands.
  • •The law is designed so that if one piece is removed, the other pieces can still work on their own.
  • •This rule helps keep the law useful even if a small part has problems.

Example

Imagine a law about school rules that says kids must wear uniforms and can't bring toys to school. If a judge says the 'no toys' rule is unfair, the uniform rule can still be enforced.

The law is written so that if one rule doesn't work, the other rules don't disappear. The uniform rule stays even if the toy rule is thrown out.
