§ 29100 Bee Protection From Pesticides

Key Takeaways

  • •Bees are super important for farms and growing food.
  • •Some bug sprays can hurt or kill bees when used on flowers.
  • •Farmers still need to use bug sprays to protect their crops.
  • •How much the bees get hurt depends on things like when the spray is used, what kind of spray it is, and how close the beehives are.

Example

A farmer wants to spray bug spray on his orange trees while they are blooming.

The farmer needs to be careful because the bug spray could hurt the bees that help the trees grow fruit. He should check if there are beehives nearby and maybe spray at a time when bees aren’t as active, like early morning or late evening.
