§ 24130 Animal Consignment Sale Records

Key Takeaways

  • •If you buy or sell animals for others at a salesyard, you must keep a record after each sale.
  • •The record must include the owner's name and address, details about the animal (like breed, color, and size), and proof that the owner really owns the animal.
  • •You also need to write down the license plate numbers of any vehicles used to bring the animal to the salesyard.
  • •The owner must sign the record to confirm everything is correct.

Example

A farmer asks a salesyard to sell his cow for him.

The salesyard must write down the farmer's name, describe the cow (like its color and size), and note the farmer's truck license plate. The farmer must sign the paper to confirm it’s his cow.
