§ 22081 Wholesaler Meat Purchase Sources

• •Meat sellers (wholesalers) can only buy meat from certain people: licensed slaughterers, other meat sellers with a real business, or farmers who follow the rules to kill their animals.
• •You can't just sell meat to a wholesaler if you're not one of these three types of people.
• •This law makes sure meat comes from safe and checked places.

A farmer raises cows and wants to sell the meat to a big meat seller.

The farmer must either sell the live cows to a licensed slaughterer, or follow the rules to kill the cows themselves before selling the meat. If they don’t, the big meat seller can’t buy from them.
