§ 21706 Altered Cattle Sale Invoices

Key Takeaways

  • •If you change or mess up a bill of sale for cattle, it becomes invalid.
  • •Only an inspector can make changes to the bill of sale, and they must sign and date those changes.
  • •If you try to alter the bill of sale yourself, it won’t count anymore.

Example

A farmer sells some cows and writes a bill of sale. Later, he realizes he sold more cows than he wrote down, so he tries to change the number on the bill of sale himself.

The bill of sale is now invalid because the farmer changed it without an inspector signing and dating the change. The buyer or seller can’t use this altered bill of sale as proof of the sale.
