§ 19358 Meat Misbranding Prohibition

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't sell or move meat (including horse meat) if it's labeled wrong.
  • •The label must follow the rules set by the director.
  • •This applies to any meat or meat product covered by this law.

Example

A store sells packages labeled 'Beef Burgers,' but they are actually made of horse meat.

This is against the law because the label is wrong—it says beef but it's horse meat. The store could get in trouble for selling mislabeled meat.
