§ 19306 Renderer Recordkeeping Violations

Key Takeaways

  • •If you run a business that handles certain waste (like animal parts), you must keep detailed records. If you don’t, you can get fined or even go to jail.
  • •If a police officer or government worker asks to see your records, you must show them. If you refuse or destroy the records too soon, you’re breaking the law.
  • •The first time you break this law, you could pay at least $1,000 or spend up to 30 days in jail (or both).
  • •If you break this law again within a year, the fine jumps to at least $5,000, and you might have to stop doing business for up to 30 days.
  • •If you break this law three or more times in two years, the fine is at least $10,000, and you’ll have to stop doing business for 30 days.

Example

A company that picks up animal waste from farms doesn’t write down where they took the waste, like the law says. A police officer asks to see their records, but the company says they don’t have any.

This company broke the law twice: first by not keeping records, and second by not showing them when asked. They could get fined $1,000 or more and might even go to jail for up to 30 days.
