§ 19040 Agricultural Fee Use Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •All money collected from fees goes into a special fund for the Department of Food and Agriculture.
  • •The money can only be used to enforce the rules and must directly benefit the people who paid the fees.
  • •Fees can't be too high—they must match the actual cost of things like checks, inspections, and paperwork.

Example

A farmer pays a fee to get a license to sell eggs at the market.

The money from the fee goes into a special fund and is used to check that the eggs are safe and the farm follows the rules. The fee can't be more than what it costs to do these checks.
