§ 18785 Livestock Product Fill Standards

This law says that if a meat or poultry product is sold in a container that doesn't meet the required fill level, it must clearly say so on the label.

Key Takeaways

  • •Meat or poultry products must meet fill standards set by the government.
  • •If a product doesn't meet the fill standard, the label must clearly say so.
  • •If the label doesn't say it's underfilled, the product is misbranded.

Example

You buy a can of chicken soup that looks half empty.

If the can doesn't have enough soup inside, the label must say something like 'This can has less soup than usual.' If it doesn't say that, the product is misbranded.
