§ 18784 Livestock Product Labeling Standards

This law says that meat or poultry products must be labeled correctly and match the official rules about what they should contain.

Key Takeaways

  • •Meat or poultry products must follow official rules about what’s inside.
  • •The label must use the correct name for the product.
  • •Extra ingredients (except spices or coloring) must be listed if the rules require it.

Example

You buy a package of ground beef at the store.

The label must say 'ground beef' and list any extra ingredients (like salt or breadcrumbs) if the rules say so. If it doesn’t, the store could get in trouble.
