§ 17551 Animal Brand Alteration

• •You may only brand an animal with the official brand that belongs to its owner.
• •Changing, covering up, or damaging an existing brand on someone else’s animal is illegal.
• •The rule covers cows, horses, colts, jacks, jennies, and mules.

A neighbor finds a mule that belongs to someone else and puts his own brand on it so it looks like his property.

Because he used a brand that isn’t the mule’s recorded owner brand, the law says he broke the rule.
