§ 14512 Farm Nutrient Material Definition

This law defines what counts as an "agricultural mineral" for farm use in the state.

Key Takeaways

  • •A substance is an agricultural mineral if it has nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and potash under 5% and is sold for farms.
  • •It also includes materials that provide essential nutrients, like gypsum, manure, or certain sludges, even if they don't meet the 5% rule.
  • •The definition is used to regulate how these materials can be distributed and used in agriculture.

Example

A farmer buys a bag of gypsum to improve soil quality on his fields.

Because gypsum is listed as an agricultural mineral, the bag can be sold and used on farms without being treated as regular commercial fertilizer.
