§ 967 Lawyer Referral Service Privilege

Key Takeaways

  • •Lawyers can't share your secrets without your permission.
  • •If someone tries to get your private info from a lawyer, the lawyer must keep it secret unless you say it's okay.
  • •This rule is for lawyer referral services too—they have to protect your private talks just like a lawyer would.

Example

You tell a lawyer referral service about a problem at work, like your boss not paying you fairly.

The service can't tell anyone what you said, even if your boss asks. They have to keep it secret unless you say they can share it.
